On behalf the department of Rural Development and Land Reform, I would like to welcome you all to this very important AfricaGEO 2014 conference and Exhibition, the second of its kind, building on the proud history and tradition of the Conference of Southern African Surveyors (CONSAS), a conference that first started in 1961.

This conference comes at a time when we, as government and the country at large, are celebrating a milestone of 20 years since the advent of a democratic South Africa. In the same spirit,let us all embrace this wonderful and very appropriate and relevant theme of Developing Geomatics for the African continent. Your participation and contributions to the sessions and activities of this conference across its spectrum of multiple disciplines of Geomatics is very crucial and valued.
