Biography

Jeff McKenna is the current President of the Open Source Geospatial Foundation (OSGeo). Jeff was one of the founders of the annual Free and Open Source Software for Geospatial (FOSS4G) events, and can often be found supporting the spread of the FOSS4G passion at events all around the world. A geographer by background, he has always focused on the user side of software (training, documentation, installers); he is a member of the documentation team for the MapServer project, and sits on its Project Steering Committee. Jeff operates a consulting company on the East coast of Canada

Open Source Geospatial: Supporting Communities

Open Source geospatial software is now a stable and popular option for municipalities and communities to share their spatial information in a sustainable way. Open Source software is a leader in supporting open data use, standards, and innovation, which are all very attractive today for global communities. This talk will examine the key players supporting these communities, including the Open Source Geospatial Foundation (OSGeo), the professional service providers offering custom support, and the communities behind the Free of Open Source Software for Geospatial (FOSS4G) events around the world.
